A weighted 88-key digital piano is the standard first purchase, and it carries a student well into intermediate playing. An unweighted keyboard is a temporary stand-in at best, and a 61-key board will hold a student back within a year. Most beginners don’t need a full acoustic piano until intermediate stages.
How long does it take to learn piano?
